The Electoral commission of Zambia has announced that scrutiny of presidential supporters will be done at provincial headquarters in all the ten provinces.
The amended constitution requires that a presidential candidate is accompanied by 1,000 supporters, a situation that most stakeholders condemned stating that it was a costly undertaking for supporters to be ferried to Lusaka.
The commission has said that nomination fees will be announced on February 4 this year. May 16 to 10 August has been set as the period for campaigns countrywide. This means parliament may be dissolved on 16 May 2016.
ECZ Chairman Justice Esau Chulu informed the media and stakeholders this morning where he said that 1,593,840 voters were registered as of 31st December 2015, which represents 1.7 million new voters. Lusaka and Southern Provinces recorded the highest number of voters.
