The 2017 national budget will finally be presented on the 11th of November, 2016. This is according to Ministry of finance Head of media and public relations, Chileshe Kandeta.
Mr. Kandeta has said that the Ministry will be finalizing consultations and then conducting validation, consistency checks in the proposed policies, programs, activities, and revenue and expenditure measures.
According to Part XVI, Public Finance and Budget, Article 202 clause (3) of the Constitution, “In a year where a general election is held, the Minister responsible for finance shall cause to be prepared and laid before the National Assembly, within ninety days of the swearing in of the President, estimates of revenue and expenditure for the Republic for the next financial year.”
This will be the first time in the history of the Country for an opposition Leader Felix Mutati serving as Finance Minister to present a national budget.
Mr. Mutati is the current leader of the opposition Movement for Multi-party democracy.
