A suspected thief was burnt to death in John-Laing Compound by an angry mob in the early hours of today.
Information obtained by 5fm radio indicates that the unidentified youth in his twenties was among a gang that had blocked into a Shop stealing goods.
During that process the Owner of the Shop and Neighbors mobilized themselves and later descended on the gang that scampered for safety but one of them was cornered by the residents who burnt him to death using tyres.
Meanwhile When Police officers picked up the dead body, residents refused to direct them to the Shop that was blocked into as alleged by the residents.
Lusaka Province Police Commissioner Nelson Phiri confirmed this to 5fm radio this afternoon.
Mr. Phiri believes the residents are declining to locate the Shop for fear of being implicated in the killing of the suspected thief.
