Lusaka City Council has secured 18 convictions through the Courts of Law for failure by some residents to subscribe to waste management, selling liquor without a licence as well as selling and preparing of food under insanitary conditions.
Bertha Namutowe, Juliet Nampasa, Christopher Mulendema, Florence Chuulu, Musonda Nakatunga, Evance Banda and Bornface Mwandu have been convicted for selling and preparing food under insanitary conditions and have been convicted and fined 450 Kwacha each or in default face a maximum of three months simple imprisonment.
Meanwhile six convictions have been secured for selling liquor without a licence which is contrary to the Liquor Licencing Act Number 20 of 2011.
Lucy Imwiko, Kedrick Nchimunya, Constance Chisenga, Ernest Chuuma, Daniel Kanchibiya and Timothy Chumfwa have all been convicted and fined between 800 Kwacha and 1,300 Kwacha respectively or in default face a maximum one month imprisonment.
And four Residents Namely Festus Bwalya, Mumba Nabwalya Mable Mwansa and Chuma Iketiwe have been convicted and fined 450 Kwacha each or in default face a maximum of Three Month simple imprisonment for Failure to Subscribe to the Waste Management System.
The Council through Public Health department has Intensified Inspections in all Business Ppremises as well as households.
The Local Authority has urged Residents to observe the law to avoid possible prosecution.
