The Zambia Police Command has refuted claims made by the opposition United Party for National Development that Their Leader Hakainde Hichilema is Unwell.
Both Monze UPND Member of Parliament Mr. Jack Mwiimbu and Party Spokesman Mr. Charles Kakoma have in the past days said that Mr. Hichilema is sick needing medical attention.
But Police Spokeswoman Mrs. Esther Katongo has dispelled assertions that Mr. Hichilema was poisoned following his arrest last week.
Mrs. Katongo said that Statements such as the one attributed to Mr. Kakoma are misleading and bent on inciting members of the public and should be dismissed.
She said that even those people who may be in detention who do not have personal doctors or Lawyers are taken for medical attention in instances where they become unwell whilst in detention because it is their Constitutional right.
Mrs. Katongo has wondered why Police could deny Mr. Hichilema attention when he is just a suspect because even people who are convicted have got a right to medical attention.
She further warned that Police will not take such unjustified statements lightly because they are aimed at destabilizing the security of the nation.
