The Ministry Of Livestock And Fisheries has vaccinated over 300,000 cattle and 700,000 chickens against livestock diseases in Southern Province.

This is according provincial permanent secretary SIBANZE SIMUCHOBA.

Mr. SIMUCHOBA said animal vaccinations are needed to respond to future infectious threats to human and animal health for the benefit of the country’s economy.

Mr. SIMUCHOBA said animals carry infectious agents that can be transmitted to people and vaccines are one way to manage them.

He said livestock vaccination is also aimed at reducing transmission of the infectious agent between animal hosts, which lowers the number of infected animals that could sometimes pass the infection to people.

Mr. SIMUCHOBA also added that tenders for the construction of 90 dip tanks have been awarded, and that most contractors are at mobilization stage.
