Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga says the association is building a strong foundation by developing youth football.


And U-17 National Team Captain Prince Mumba says the squad was encouraged by Kamanga’s gesture to travel to Mauritius and support the lads in the finals of the Cosafa Castle Cup.

 

Meanwhile a host of fans led by pastor Peter Makembo joined FAZ and other football followers in welcoming the U-17 team as it Arrived from Mauritius Last Night Where they Won the Championship after beating the host Nation 3-0 in the Final.

 

Addressing the welcome party at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KK) Kamanga said that a strong youth structure would ensure that Zambia reclaims its status as a powerhouse on the continent.

Kamanga said that the group will be kept busy to ensure that they stepped up to fill the void by the U-20 that has been elevated to U-23.

Meanwhile coach Numba Mumamba said the coaches would build on the success at the Cosafa level by spending more time with the boys to groom them into world beaters.

 

The U-17 team lifted the trophy after beating Madagascar 7-1 and dispatching South Africa 3-2 while they lost 1-0 to Mozambique in their group matches.

 

In the semi finals Zambia beat Malawi 2-0 before overcoming Mauritius 3-0 in the finals.
