A boat carrying unknown number of people suspected to be Congolese Refugees in Chiengi District in Luapula Province Capsized on Lake Mweru and Seven People Drowned.


Police Rushed to the Scene at Village Kasote and Confirmed the Incidence and Four Bodies of Juveniles Already Retrieved from the Lake.


Police Spokesperson, Mrs Esther Katongo says the Bodies of Three People are Still Missing and these are Chungu Zali aged 18 a Female, a Male Juvenile Mpweto Mulenga aged 13 and Female Muchi Kalombo aged 14 Years.


Mrs Katongo there are about 22 Survivors that include Eight Female Adults, Eight Female Juveniles and Six Male Juveniles.


The Coxswain of the Boat Davies Kalumba aged 21 Years of Chief Kambwali in Nchelenge District has been Detained for the Offence of Causing Death by Dangerous Navigation Contrary to Section 23(1) Cap 466 of the Marine Act.

The Four Retrieved Bodies have been Deposited in Chiengi Hospital Mortuary; a Search for the Missing Bodies has Continued.
