Following the consultations with stakeholders that include the Bankers Association of Zambia, the Commissioner General of the Zambia Revenue Authority Kingsley Chanda has again extended the Tax Payer Identification Number (TPIN) registration deadline from 30th June, 2018 to 31st December, 2018.
He has further clarified that the objective of the TPIN registration is to ensure that there is an inclusive and comprehensive tax register in the country.
The TPIN requirement is not only peculiar to Zambia but a global practice.
Meanwhile a financial analyst Mambo Hamahundu has urged the Government to handle the Tax Payer Identification number registration exercise with caution as it has the potential to negatively affect the Banking sector.
But Mr. Hamahundu has observed that the exercise can hinder efforts to achieve financial inclusion.
He adds that people were panicking with those that had not yet registered withdrawing all their monies in fear of having their accounts been frozen.
