CENTRE for trade, policy and development executive director Isaac Mwaipopo has urged the food reserve agency to declare the surplus from last years’ Maize production following revelations that this year’s production is expected to reduce from 3 million to 2 million tones.

Mr. Mwaipopo has told 5fm news that this should be done before the next Maize marketing season is open so that government can begin planning for the future in view of the projected reduction in the maize production.

He is confident that despite the projection for this year’s Maize production been low, they will be enough stock for the country’s consumption.

Meanwhile Mr Mwaipopo feels the expected low Maize production for 2018 will benefit to some farmers who did not sell their Maize during  the last  marketing season.
