Opposition Political Party Leaders have criticized President Edgar Lungu’s trip to Turkey, saying it demonstrates lack of commitment in implementing austerity measures in view of the prevailing economic instability.

The proposed measures by the ministry of finance include; strategies to curb the debt stock and the pace of debt accumulation, government arrears, unsustainable government expenditure, revenue measures and communication on economic and financial matters. 

But third liberation movement president Enoch Tonga has doubted Government’s commitment towards addressing fiscal and debt challenges affecting the country.

The head of state is in turkey to attend today’s inauguration ceremony of Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the Capital, Ankara.

But people’s alliance for change president Andyfold Banda feels the trip was avoidable as the country is facing social political and economic challenges.
