United Party for National Development Spokesperson, Charles Kakoma has described government’s decision to acquire mortgages for construction and purchase of properties for missions abroad as “irresponsible” and reckless.

Government has started full implementation of the resolution for mission abroad to acquire mortgages for construction and purchase of properties to reduce expenditure on rented chanceries and residences.

But Mr. Kakoma has told 5fm news that, the decision is untimely because it has comes at a time when the country is grappling with economic hardships.

He says the move is against the recent announcement by the minister of finance that Government has embarked on austerity measures to reduce expenditure.
