President Edgar Lungu has described the low voter turn up as “Pathetic”.

The country is holding the holding mayoral elections in Lusaka and council chairpersons’ elections in Chasefu, Chipangali, Kasenengwa, Lumezi, Lusangazi and Chifunabuli Districts.

By-Elections are also being held in Chachacha, Lwambazi, Kangwena, Kanongesha, Kanyama and Looma Wards.

Following a check by 5FM News crew on several polling stations across Lusaka it was observed that only a few people had turned up to vote in the early hours of the day.

And speaking to journalists shortly after casting his vote at Andrew Mwenye Polling Station in Lusaka’s Chawama Constituency President Lungu reminded citizens on the need to exercise their right to vote for their preferred candidates.

He adds that the peace accord signed by the opposition United Party for National Development and the Ruling Patriotic Front marks the beginning of dialogue.
