President Edgar Lungu has appointed Kanyama Member of Parliament Elizabeth Phiri as a minister responsible for Gender.

She replaces the late Kasenengwa Member of Parliament Victoria Kalima.

During the swearing ceremony at statehouse president Lungu acknowledged her significant contribution to the patriotic front party and the country in general, hence the appointment.

The head of state has therefore implored the new gender minister to help government to seriously address the numerous gender issues affecting men and women, boys and girls, such as early marriages and gender based violence.

He adds the minister has huge task to help implement his aspiration to end Child Marriages not only in Zambia but across the continent.

President Lungu has also congratulated Mrs. Irene Mwezi Kunda and Mr. Stephen Mbayani Lungu on their appointment as state council counsels.
