A total of 145, 068 farmers will benefit from the 2018/2019 farming season under the Farmer Input Support Program (FISP) in Eastern province.
The FISP program has also been rolled out to the newly created districts in the province which include Lusangazi, Kasenengwa, Lumezi, Chipangali and Chasefu respectively.
Provincial Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo made the revelations during a media briefing held at his office in Chipata.
Mr. Kasolo has announced that a total of 10, 200 farmers will benefit from Kasenengwa,12,500 in Chipangali while in Lusangazi a total of 8500 farmers will benefit.
He adds that in Chadiza district, the targeted beneficiaries are 14,710, in Chipata district 25,036, Katete 26,869, Lundazi, 12,020, Lumedzi District, 7,050, Chasefu, 8000 and Petauke district 20,083 beneficiaries.
The PS has expressed confidence that the idea is aimed at empowering farmers so that farming is improved in the region, resulting in the region attaining food security.
