Tobacco farmers have risen against tobacco merchants for allegedly exploiting them and ignoring regulations governing the sector with impunity.
The farmers complained of unfair business practices among tobacco buyers who could not attend stakeholder’s meeting organized by the tobacco board of Zambia in Lusaka this morning.
They expressed concern that tobacco merchants want to be supervising the sector at the expense of the tobacco board of Zambia.
The visibly annoyed farmers have called on the Government to tame the tobacco buyers.
Tobacco Board of Zambia chief executive officer James Kasongo has highlighted commitment towards creating a favourable environment in the sector.
