Livestock and Fisheries Minister Kampamba Chewe has disclosed that smallholder farmers can now apply for loans up-to 87,000 kwacha without collateral for aquaculture farming.
This has been made possible with the 50 million United States dollars which has been set aside for various entrepreneurship programmes across the country.
Speaking in an interview with 5fm news, Chewe says this is an opportunity for commercial fish farmers, youths and women to empower themselves through the fish farming business and help earn an income for their respective families.
The minister is confident that the project will help in reducing the fish deficit which currently stands at 80,000 metric tonnes annually.
