Opposition UPND Nalikwanda Member of Parliament Professor Geoffrey Lungwangwa says it is important that students in universities organize themselves as unions as it is a practice of democracy and good governance in the country.
Speaking in an interview with 5fm news, Professor Lungwangwa says it is unfortunate that political leaders find it fit to temper with unions a trend he notes hinders the growth and maturity of the student populous in universities.
The lawmaker who is also former Education Minister has since advised political leaders to instead guide students to organize unionism in a more harmonious and constructive way.
Recently, Higher Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo closed the Copperbelt University indefinitely and also banned the union at the university citing the gross misconduct by students being led by the union.
