The Agricultural Technical and Professional Staff Union Of Zambia has warned millers who are buying subsidized maize from the Food Reserve Agency(FRA) that if they continue hiking the price of mealie meal on the market, it will ask the government to publish their names and later request that they be blacklisted for exploiting the consumers.
Currently, the price of a 25 kg bag of breakfast mealie meal is selling between 105 kwacha and 120 kwacha in some retail shops.
Union General Secretary, Joe Kamutumwa says it is unacceptable that despite some millers benefiting from government subsided maize they are still selling mealie meal at an exorbitant price.
Kamutumwa has told 5fm mews that this is not only a hindrance to poverty alleviation but also defeats all purpose of them getting subsidized maize from the government.
