The Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia has noted with concern that the 2 year period in which civil servants have to resign before contesting an election is just a way of blocking public servants from joining politics.

82 out of 188 National Dialogue Forum delegates yesterday resolved in a secret ballot that a public officer must leave public office, 2 years before being eligible to stand for an election.

Speaking in an interview with 5fm news, Union President David Chiyobe says the adoption by the forum delegates is not democratic.

Chiyobe suggests that a civil servant must resign 6 months before contesting an election as one would not be unproductive for a long time.
