Airtel Networks Zambia Plc has contributed K12, 500 towards the building of a Clinic in Nalolo area of Western Province after 56 year old medical doctor Pota Kalima cycled from Mbala to Lusaka to fundraise for the building.

Airtel Managing Director, Apoorva Mehrotra who handed over a cheque of K12, 500 said he was highly encouraged by the move of Dr. Kalima, a Zambian doctor based in Scotland who cycled 1,023.8km from Mbala in Northern Province to Lusaka to raise K150, 000 to build a health Centre in Nalolo.

“One of Airtel’s key focus areas in our robust Corporate Social Responsibility program is health. I was encouraged to see social media abuzz with your resolve and commitment to raise money for a clinic in Nalolo and when I saw a picture of you recharging your phone at an Airtel Money kiosk, I knew we had to help,” Mr. Mehrotra said.

Adding: “It is not every day that you find people who are selfless enough to do what you have done all in aid of serving a larger community.

We hope that with this small contribution the clinic will be built and the younger people will also be encouraged to do what you have done. We will be happy to be invited to see the progress,” Mehrotra said.

An emotional Dr. Kalima said he was grateful for the support that Airtel had given and that the money would go straight to start the building after other logistics are put in place “I am overwhelmed with your support and to have big company like yours join in makes me truly grateful. This for me is the least I can do for the people in Nalolo because as you know my calling is that of being a medical doctor and health is a very big issue for me” Dr. Kalima said.
