The Opposition Green Party has called for the establishment of a legal framework which will regulate how private companies can fund political parties in the country.
The 2018 Financial Intelligence Center’s Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing trends report indicates that private companies that were awarded public contracts were funding some prominent individuals linked to political parties of which the analyzed cases amounted to 10 million kwacha.
Speaking in an interview with 5fm news, Party Leader Peter Sinkamba stresses the need to end the trend as criminals may continue funding individuals in power, a situation which risks the peace and governance system of the country.
He adds that the trend is hindering the growth of the private sector
