A Child Rights Activist says the recent sporadic cases of defilement that the country has continued to record is a wake-up call to authorities to get to the bottom of the matter and establish the root cause of the vice.
In a space of less than a month, the country has recorded three cases of child defilement, with the latest being in Mansa district where a 9-year-old girl was defiled by her biological father.
Meanwhile according to the Zambia Police, last year a total of 2,578 defilement cases were reported countrywide.
Speaking to 5fm News, Henry Kabwe expressed concern with the development saying defilement poses a major threat to children’s right to education.
He says arresting the perpetrators and stiffening punishment only will not help put an end to the vice.
