AUTHORITIES URGED TO RE-LOOK AT THE COUNTRY’S TRADE FRAMEWORK

A Development Analyst, Charity Musamba says poverty coupled with the high unemployment rate in the country is leading to increased smuggling offences in the country.

Musamba is concerned that smuggling is becoming a common trend and if not addressed the vice has the potential to distort the domestic trade process and further affect the performance of the economy.

Meanwhile Musamba has called on authorities to re-look at the country’s trade framework in a bid to find sustainable ways of normalizing trade of goods that are prohibited for export or import.
