As Zambia joins the rest of the world in commemorating International Labor Day, the University of Zambia Lecturers And Researchers’ Union-UNZALARU has called on employers specifically government to reduce the levels of greed and begin to seriously provide decent work by paying employees wages on time.

UNZALARU General Secretary Kelvin Mambwe notes with concern that the expectations of an ordinary worker have been reduced by employers both in the public and private sectors who have continued to subject workers to unacceptable working conditions.

Mambwe says it is unfortunate that the country’s macro-economic indicators exemplified by the Gross Domestic Product remain bright yet the economy has not translated into improved privileges for employees.

The 2019 International Labor Day is being held under the theme, enhancing productivity and alleviating poverty through the decent work agenda.
