The Zambia Congress of Trade Unions has cautioned government to be wary of the continued political interference in the running of markets, bus stops and stations as it hinders efforts by councils’ in the country to become self-sustaining.

ZCTU Deputy Secretary-General Elaston Njobvu notes that political interference undermines the operations of the councils in the country and must be curtailed.

Mr Njobvu has explained that this makes it difficult for the local authorities to generate their own revenues.

He has told 5fm news that if such vices continue, it will be difficult for local authorities to reduce over-dependency on the central government for funding.
