Action Aid Zambia has called on the government to immediately disclose and facilitate for the reform of the Debt Sustainability Analysis and Monitoring Frameworks which are currently being used, in order to address the continued rise in debt.
Zambia’s external debt stands at 10.23 billion dollars as at June 2019 while its arrears stand at 16.7 billion kwacha as at end March 2019.
Action Aid Zambia Executive Director Nalucha Ziba wonders why the country’s debt has continued to rise for the past few years when the government continues to seemingly stress on the implementation of austerity measures.
She notes with concern that the debt is negatively affecting the performance of social sectors such as health and education.
