A Youth Activist Mwape Musonda has called on the government to extend the probe on privatization to other individuals instead of focusing on one individual, the UPND Leader, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema.
In a statement issued to #5fm, Mr. Musonda notes that privatization brought a lot of suffering to many Zambians through job losses and loss of pension benefits especially miners who were left jobless and this led to the collapse of the economy.
“People Like Elias Chipimo, Charles Milupi, Valentine Chitalu, and others Should Be Probed to establish the roles they played in the privatization of the various Parastatals that they were charged with so we can have answered,” he said.
And Mr. Musonda has called on investigative wings of government to prepare thoroughly probe the matter so that the Zambian people can understand fully what happened during the privatization of national assets.
“We are therefore calling on government through the anti-corruption commission to investigate the matter further and extend it to the various individuals and companies that were involved in the privatization process so that the truth can be established,” Mr. Musonda said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Musonda has challenged Mr. Hichilema, to explain the role he played in the selling of national assets.
“The question is did Mr. Hichilema then director at Grant Thornton, declare a financial interest in the valuation of hotel Intercontinental in Livingstone? If he did then there shouldn’t be any further questions. If not then it will be taken that the independence of Grant Thornton was compromised by the financial interest threat because it’s Managing Director Mr. Hichilema became the board chairman of Sun hotel after the privatization of Hotel Intercontinental in Livingstone” he stated.
