An influx of Chinese made scales have flooded the Zambian market a situation that has disappointed the ZAMBIA WEIGHTS AND MEASURES AGENCY.
This comes in the wake of the seizure of 9 illegal scales found being used for trade in chazanga and chipata townships of Lusaka.
Agency Public Relations Officer MUTALE CHILESHE said that a team of inspectors conducted a random inspection in butcheries in those townships on Wednesday 20th September 2017.
It is illegal to possess or use an instrument for trading purposes that is not type approved and verified for accuracy by the Zambia Weights and Measures Agency.
Further, the Agency has noted increased importation and use of non-type-approved digital scales from China by Zambian traders.
“Traders should be careful with cheap models of scales they try to use in their business as many of them are not suitable for use in trade.”
“Scales and measuring instruments must be checked and verified by the Zambia Weights and Measures Agency before being used for business or trade.” he said.
