Caritas Zambia has observed with concern that the recent four percent salary increase for civil servants by the government will not help improve the livelihood of most Zambian people in view of the country’s current economic hardships.

In an interview with 5fm news Caritas Zambia Executive Director, Eugene Kabilika says the adjustment is too minimal owing to the fact that the price of mealie meal and other essential basic commodities have increased on the market.

He notes that many people cannot afford to meet the cost of goods and services and has since urged the government to look at the plight of the Zambian people by addressing the escalating levels of poverty.
