The World Bank has disclosed that 75 thousand women across the country have been empowered with small grants to start-up businesses under the girls’ education and women’s empowerment project.
World Bank Country Director Ina Ruthernburg says the program is important as it is aimed at eradicating poverty in the country which currently stands at 70 percent in rural areas.
Ruthernburg tells 5fm news that under the same project, 16 thousand girls in rural areas have had access to education against the target of 14 thousand.
She further stresses the need for the Government to scale up interventions towards poverty eradication by investing in such programmes as they will promote development in the country.
