The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit has delivered a boat to stranded people in Chilima and Kantanga in Chikulu Ward in Mporokoso to ease transportation of people across Lwangwa River who were cut off.
Area Member of Parliament Brian Mundubile handed over the boat at Chilima/Kantaga crossing point yesterday.
Mr. Mundubile said on top of the provision of a communication tower which had already been installed and was in use, the government also wanted the people of the area to be able to move freely between their villages and the rest of the district.
And Chikuku Ward Councillor Henry Kasenamine thanked the government for listening to the cries of the people in the area and hoped that one day soon, it will construct a permanent bridge to connect the two areas.
Speaking at the same occasion, Mporokoso Council Chairman Clement Kabwe disclosed that a school was also being constructed in the area through the Constituency Development Fund.
Following the breakdown of a ferry across Lwangwa River at the crossing point, the government had provided a boat that has however outlived its lifespan and needed a replacement.
