Former General Secretary for National Energy Sector and Allied Workers Union Yotamu Mutayachalo has Cautioned the Government as it tries to Migrate towards Cost Reflective Electricity Tariffs.
in his 2017, Budget Presentation, Finance Minister Felix Mutati indicated that Government by the End of Next Year will Move to Cost Reflective Tariffs to Attract Private Sector Investment While, Maintaining the Life Line Tariff to Protect Poorer Households.
Mr Mutati Emphasized that this, However does not mean that Consumers should end up Paying for Inefficiency.
Mr Mutati Explained that the Energy Sector has Experienced a Number of Challenges.
He says Pricing of Fuel and Electricity has not been Cost Reflective Leading to Unsustainable Fiscal Outlays.
Mr Mutati said this has Hampered Investments in the Sector.
Meanwhile, Mr Mutayachalo says Revising the Country’s Economy with High Electricity Tariffs may be a Toll order.
