The Young African Leaders Initiative-YALI has called on the government to tell the nation the gains that have been made in view of the austerity measures which were effected last year.
Finance Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe last year announced several austerity measures in an effort to address the country’s debt burden.
YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza is concerned that no feedback has been given on the intended positives from the results of the measures.
Zambia’s external debt has continued on its growth trajectory and stood at 10.05 billion United States dollars as at December 2018 compared to 8.74 billion United States dollars at the end of 2017.
Mwanza tells 5fm news that in order for people to appreciate the importance of austerity measures, the government needs to give an update on the matter.
