Government says it will not reverse its decision on the lifting of the ban on the export of mealie meal following appeals from various stakeholders in the civil society and political circles to do so.
The Opposition United Party for National Development President Hakainde Hichilema is among stakeholders who have challenged the government to rescind the decision of allowing maize export in order to ensure food security.
But in an interview with 5fm News Agriculture Minister Michael Katambo has clarified that government has only allowed export of mealie meal and not maize in its quest to promote value addition in the agriculture sector.
Katambo has indicated that only one hundred and twenty thousand metric tons of mealie meal will be exported by the private sector.
