The Consumer Unity Trust Society-CUTS has reiterated the need for the government to consider reducing funding of infrastructure projects and channel funds towards improving the social sector.

Speaking in an interview with 5fm news CUTS Centre Coordinator ,Chennai Mukumba notes with concern that most infrastructure projects such as roads are being implemented at the expense of the safeguarding the social welfare of the people.

She says the initiative of halting projects that are below 80 percent completion if fully actualized, can benefit marginalized through easy access to health care and improved education.

In view of addressing the country’s increasing debt, the government last year announced several austerity measures among them terminating financing of development projects that are below 80 per cent completion.
