President Edgar Lungu has appointed former Foreign Affairs Minister, Katele Kalumba, as Alternate Head of SADC Electoral Observer Mission (SEOM) to the Parliamentary Elections for The Republic of Madagascar.
This is the second time Dr Kalumba is being appointed as alternate head of a SADC Observer Mission, having led the SEOM to the 2018 Presidential Elections in Madagascar.
Dr Kalumba is expected to lead a team of observers that has been constituted from all SADC member countries, including Zambia.
The SADC Electoral Observer Team is scheduled to arrive in Madagascar on Monday 20th May 2019 until that country goes to the polls on the 27th May to elect its members of the national assembly.
Recently, Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji indicated that the deployment of the SADC Observer teams is in line with the revised SADC principles governing credible and democratic elections.
Zambia’s High Commission to South Africa First Secretary for Press and Public Relations, Naomi Nyawali has confirmed this.
