As voting is underway in Katuba Parliamentary Constituency, electorates in the area have been urged to remain peaceful, reject violence and respect the rights of their fellow citizens to vote.
Residents of Katuba constituency in the Central province are electing their new member of parliament following the death of the incumbent Member of Parliament Patricia Mwashingwele on May 2, 2019.
The opposition UPND is fielding, Aubrey Kapalasa as its candidate while the ruling PF has adopted Zacks Mwachilele.
And Christian Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG) Consortium, Steering Committee Member Emmanuel Chikoya has urged the Police to maintain a safe environment for citizens to exercise their rights to vote.
Father Chikoya has also revealed that the consortium has deployed 62 Non –Partisan, Trained and Accredited Parallel Vote Tabulation Observers and five Mobile Observers .
Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission of Zambia ECZ is also conducting six local government by-elections in Mayembe ward of Shiwang’ándu district, Mangango, Shitwa and Kanabilumbu wards of Kaoma district and Lubwa ward of Kitwe district, Lungwishi ward of Mansa district.
The vacancies in Lubwa, Lungwishi, Mayembe, Mangango, Shitwa and Kanabilumbu wards are as a result of resignations.
Speaking to 5fm News Women for Change Executive Director Lumba Siyanga has advised women especially to exercise their right to vote.
She has however regretted that a leadership position that was entrusted with women will now be transferred to a male counterpart.
