Government has disclosed that Lusaka province has continued to record the highest prevalence of tuberculosis in the country.
Ministry of health permanent secretary for health services Dr Kennedy Malama notes that the routine TB notification data shows that 40 percent of the TB notifications are from Lusaka province.
Dr Malama explains that out of the 100 people tested for TB country wide, 80 percent are estimated to be either from Lusaka or copper belt provinces.
The permanent secretary said this when he launched the 7 million kwacha Japan Anti-Tuberculosis Association programme aimed at strengthening access to quality integrated TB prevention and management in high TB/HIV burden communities in Lusaka.
And Embassy Of Japan Charged D ‘Affairs Sugiura Toshio says the project will be implemented in 7 health facilities in Lusaka district benefiting 12,000 TB patients with 800 health workers being trained.
