Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management President Mooka Silumbu has urged mining firms with the tendency of laying off employees in view of economic hardships to ensure the workers are informed in due course in order for them to plan for their future.

Silumbu’s comment follows the happenings in the mining sector were some workers have been declared redundant with the latest from Mopani mines on the Copperbelt were 600 workers lost their jobs.

Silumbu observes that mining firms might have a genuine reason for retrenching workers but it is important that the firms engage employees and give them enough time to look for other alternatives.
