The Zambia United Local Authorities Workers Union (ZULAWU) has expressed shock over the government’s decision to suspend council workers for demanding their six months unpaid salaries.
The Kabwe Municipal Council Management has charged and suspended with immediate effect seventy four council employees for allegedly having participated in the illegal strike that took place between 27th to 29th March 2019.
Speaking in an interview, Union President Kingsley Zulu says it is unfortunate that the government has resorted to suspending the workers instead of addressing the matter through dialogue.
And Zulu has assured that the union will engage the relevant authority in order to protect the plight of workers.
Meanwhile, the United Party for National Development-UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has demanded the lifting of the suspension of Kabwe Municipal Council workers.
