Transparency International Zambia says the Financial Intelligence Centre must not be castigated for publicizing the Financial Intelligence Center Money Laundering and Terrorism Finances Report because it is in line with the purpose for which it was established.
The centre was established by an act of parliament and is the sole designated agency responsible for the receipt, requesting, analysing and disseminating disclosure of suspicious transactions reports.
However the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC)Commissioner, Alita Mbahwe has indicated that the current trend of publicizing the financial intelligence centre money laundering and terrorism finances report jeopardizing investigations by law enforcement agencies.
Speaking in an interview with 5fm News, TIZ Executive Director, Wesley Chibamba feels the FIC report cannot compromise investigation because no names of the people have been cited in the report.
And Governance, Elections, Advocacy and Research Services (GEARS) Initiative, Executive Director Macdonald Chipenzi says the statement by the (DEC)shows lack of coordination between the FIC and DEC.
