Following President Edgar Lungu’s announcement of attaching Chaplin’s to correctional facilities, National Guidance and Religious Affairs Minister Godfridah Sumaili expects to see transformation in the lives of those who have been incarcerated.
Speaking in an interview with 5fm news, Reverend Sumaili notes that inmate also need professional counsellors who will help them realize their mistakes and build their self-esteem for a positive future.
The minister has pointed out that it is important for inmates to be taken care of as they have the potential to contribute towards national once they are released.
During his address to the national assembly on the progress made towards national values and principles in the country, President Lungu said the attachment of Chaplin’s and other religious leaders to correctional facilities will allow inmates to have good morals in line with the country’s declaration of a Christian nation.
