The German Government believes there was interference by government in suspending Prime TV’s broadcasting license.
The Independent Broadcasting Authority-IBA- suspended the broadcasting license for Prime TV for 30 days for exhibiting unprofessional elements in its broadcasting through unbalanced coverage, opinionated news, material likely to incite violence and use of derogatory language.
And speaking when he addressed foreign diplomats, Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji justified the suspension stating that IBA is an independent authority therefore investigations on the broadcasting network were carried out without any government interference.
But German’s Ambassador to Zambia Achim Burkart has questioned the government’s intention of suspending the named television station stating that it was wrong for the authority to shut down the broadcaster.
Burkart is however quick to mention that Zambia is an independent country and decides on its own rights and regulations.
