The Human Rights Commission has attributed the continued increase of human trafficking cases to the country’s geographical position.
During the recent launch of the trafficking in person project aimed at strengthening the response to trafficking, home affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo revealed that 8 cases of human trafficking were reported in 2017 and 31 cases in 2018.
In an interview with 5fm News, Commission Spokesperson Mwelwa Muleya says human traffickers from various countries often use Zambia as a transit point for cheap labour and sexual exploitation.
Muleya has noted the need to conduct extensive sensitization programs as this will enable citizens to know the importance of human rights.
