The Citizens Environmental and Social Concern has expressed displeasure with what it has described as “the state of neglect” obtaining at the Chunga Dump Site.

Organization Executive Director Conwell Hakapya says it is unacceptable for the Lusaka City Council to let the dump site be in an appalling state due to the failure to take appropriate action.

Hakapya says if the local authority has no resources to repair and maintain the facility, it should bring stakeholders on board to help avert the situation.

In an interview with 5fm News Hakapya said the Lusaka city council being the biggest Local Authority in the country needs to lead by example by being proactive other than reactive.

He has since advised the council to consider partnering with a private company, once a new piece of land to put up a new dump site is identified.
