The Health Professions Council of Zambia has re-echoed the need for more investment in the health sector, including at training level so that the country can graduate more doctors locally.

The HPCZ Head of Public Relations believes an increase in the number of qualified doctors will result in enhanced quality and affordable specialized healthcare services to the people.

Terry Musonda Unit says they are elated to see Zambian health professionals continue to handle complex operations, consequently saving lives and assisting to mitigate the number of cases being referred to facilities abroad.

“HPCZ urges beneficiaries of healthcare services in Zambia to show confidence in local Health Practitioners and to celebrate with a 52-year-old female patient from whose heart Zambian Health Practitioners successfully removed a tumour,” he says.

He states that the development is signal that Zambian health professionals are eager to bring improvements in the health sector through their knowledge and skill, saying the more cases are treated within the country, the less costly healthcare will be for individuals involved and government as a whole.
