The Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) has labeled the UPND as liars for claiming that the largest Opposition party was never consulted on the appointment of a committee of eminent persons to chair the national political dialogue process.
The media report has been attributed to Mr. Charles Kakoma, the UPND Spokesperson, who has expressed ignorance regarding the procedure to settle for the following as eminent persons; Chief Nga’bwe, Senior Chief Madzimawe
Mr. Akashambatwa Mbikusita-Lewanika and Mr. Chifumu Banda
ZCID Spokesman Jackson Silavwe said in a statement issued to our Team of Analysts today, the apart from the UPND representatives on the ZCID board being part of the board meetings on 16Th and 21st August, 2018 were a resolution was made to have local eminent persons chair the national dialogue process, the UPND were also written to on 21st August, 2018 and the letter was delivered on 22nd August, 2018 and stamped received.
“The letter clearly requested the UPND to second names of eminent persons of their choice to chair the national dialogue in view of the stalled discussions with the leaders of the three church mother bodies (EFZ, CCZ and ZCCB)” said Mr. SILAVWE.
ZCID through the Executive Director’s office received two (2) letters dated 24th August, 2018 from the UPND Secretary General’s Office, Mr. Stephen Katuka and the Party President’s office Mr. Hakainde Hichilema reemphasizing their position to have the process being led by the three church mother bodies.
Mr. Silavwe indicated that to assert that the UPND was not consulted is simply not stating the truth bent on advancing a negative perception against ZCID.
“The ZCID Board requests the UPND to release the letters that have been referred to above and prove otherwise. The people of Zambia and stakeholders expect the highest levels of integrity, coherence and consistence from the country’s main opposition political party” he has demanded.
The Zambia Centre for Interparty Dialogue (ZCID) once more extends an unconditional invitation to the UPND to second names of eminent persons of their choice, preference and scope to be part of the committee at this very hour so that together we can move the process forward in national interest.
