Vice President Inonge Wina has distanced the Patriotic Front (PF) Central Committee over a Statement made by Mr Paul Moonga who wants the President’s Tenure to be increased to 7 Years.
Speaking at a Media Briefing Yesterday, Mr Moonga who is Member of the PF Central Committee urged Members of Parliament to move a Motion saying it is too expensive to hold Elections every Five Years.
But during, the Vice President’s Question time this Morning, Mrs Wina told Parliament that Mr Moonga’s Statement had no Blessing from the Party’s Central Committee.
Meanwhile, there are no Countries in East and Southern Africa with a Seven Year Presidential Term Limit; all the Eight Neighbors’ of Zambia have a Five Year Term Limit for a Presidential Candidate.
These are Angola, Botswana, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi and Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania and zimabwe.
Out of the 54 African Countries, it is only Cameroon, Senegal and Equatorial Guinea that have Adopted a Seven Year Term Limit for a President.
However, Senegal is trying to reduce the Term Limit to Five Years before the Constitutional Court Rejected the Proposal Advanced by Macky Sall.
Liberia has a Six Year Term Limit while South Sudan has no Term Limit for a President.
