Water Aid Zambia says there is need to ensure that funding to the three components of WASH program namely Water, Sanitation and Hygiene is equally distributed if the provision of these services are to make a positive impact on the lives of citizens.
Organization Acting Country Director, Mubiana Muyangwa is concerned that government has been channeling three quarters of funding to the water sector while sanitation and hygiene are usually given low allocation.
He notes that focusing only on water and leaving out sanitation and hygiene does not help improve the quality of lives for citizens stating that people can still contact diseases due to poor sanitation and hygiene.
Speaking in his opening remarks during the Writers Workshop on WASH, organized by Water Aid Zambia, Mr. Muyangwa also observed that inadequate funding to the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene remains the greatest challenges affecting service delivery.
